Courier Desktop is not a sync client. It is the manager: it deploys Courier to a server, watches it, hands out user keys, upgrades it, backs up a local vault and looks after the command-line tool on your computer. Syncing itself happens in the Obsidian plugin, or in the command-line tool.
- Service status — is it running, and the logs when it is not.
- User keys — one
ck_key per person, and the limits behind it. - Service upgrades — a new version, with a backup and a way back.
- Local backup — scheduled ZIP copies of a vault, kept on this computer.
- Managing headless sync — syncing while Obsidian is closed.
- Moving to a new server — carrying the service to another machine.
Closing the window does not quit
Section titled “Closing the window does not quit”The window hides to the Courier icon in the menu bar (the tray on Windows) and the app keeps running — that is what keeps a backup schedule on time. To really quit, use Quit in that icon’s menu.
The panel behind the icon is a glance, not a second screen: the server’s state, the keys, the vaults the command-line tool is syncing and the next backup. Click any part of it to open the page it belongs to.
