These switches are per device — a type you switch off on your phone still syncs on your laptop. The three
sections below cover the files in the vault; the config folder (.obsidian) — themes, hotkeys, plugins —
syncs too, in groups that are off until you turn them on. See Settings sync.
Notes and canvases
Section titled “Notes and canvases”Markdown notes and canvases always sync. There is no switch for them.
Other file types
Section titled “Other file types”Settings → Courier → File types. Images, audio, video and PDF are on by default; Other file types (archives, spreadsheets, code, and anything else) is off.
Switching a type off stops this device from sending and receiving those files. Nothing is deleted on either side, and switching it back on catches up with what changed meanwhile.
Excluded folders
Section titled “Excluded folders”Settings → Courier → Excluded folders → Manage. Tick a folder and this device leaves it, and everything inside it, alone: not sent, not received, and no conflict copies for it. Excluding deletes nothing; un-excluding catches up.
The list belongs to the connected remote vault and is kept on this device, so a folder excluded on your laptop still syncs from your phone.
The size limit
Section titled “The size limit”The account has a maximum file size, set by the server administrator (50 MB unless they changed it). A larger file is not uploaded: a notice names it, and the sync history row says why it was skipped. If the file has to sync, ask the administrator to raise the limit.
