Version history

Reading an old version of a file, or going back to it

Every version of a file that was pushed is kept on the server, so you can read an earlier one — or go back to it.

  • On a computer: hover the file in the file list and click History at the right end of the row.
  • On a phone: long-press the file and choose Courier version history.

It opens in its own tab beside the note and follows the file when it is renamed. A conflict copy has no history: a copy never syncs.

The list on the left is newest first, grouped by day. Select a version to see it on the right, then choose:

  • Content — the version as it was.
  • Diff — what changed since the version before it.
  1. Select the version.
  2. Click Restore this version and confirm.
  3. The file’s content becomes that version.

What the file said a moment ago is not lost: it is still in the list, so you can go back again. The restored content then syncs to your other devices like any other edit.

A version that records a deletion has no content and cannot be selected — a deleted file comes back from the recycle bin.

Forever, unless the server administrator set a retention window for the account; versions older than it are removed. The list is read from the server, so this device has to be connected to show it.
